Stop shaving, plucking and waxing.
At RejuvenationMD we can effectively eliminate hair from patients of all skin types with our state-of-the-art Forever Bare BBL, an Intense Pulsed Light treatment by Sciton® or the Elite IQTM by Cynosure. Each treatment consists of ~6 sessions to fully achieve permanent hair reduction.
What can be treated with laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal can safely treat almost any area on the body with hair.
Most of our patients here at RejuvenationMD come to target stubborn hair on the legs, back, underarms, or face, but it’s not uncommon that we remove hair from the bikini area for women and the chest for men.
Laser hair removal can also remove unwanted hair from:
- Brazilian (including the labia)
- Stomach
- Buttocks
- Toes
How does laser hair removal work?
The laser hair destroys hair follicles, removing unwanted hair from your body and face. One of our laser specialists will treat small areas at a time to shut down hair follicles and prevent regrowth.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
The average cost of your laser hair removal treatment plan varies depending on the color of the hair, size of the areas being treated, and the number of sessions needed.
At all three of our RejuvenationMD medical spa locations in Bothell, Burlington, and Bellingham, we offer laser hair removal in packages beginning at $625/area.
The cost of laser hair removal depends on the size of each area you’re wanting to remove hair from. When you consult with us for laser hair removal, we’ll develop a treatment plan tailored for you.
When will I see the results of my laser hair removal treatment?
Laser hair removal is offered in a series to effectively capture and destroy all of the follicles. Because our hair grows in cycles, the hair has to be in its initial state of growth for the laser to be effective.
After a series of laser hair removal treatments, the treated area will be free of hair and feel smooth to the touch.
How long do laser hair removal results last? Are they permanent?
Results from laser hair removal are very long lasting. Although it can’t be boasted as permanent removal, we can call it permanent reduction.
Any hair that does grow back will be thinner, weaker, and less noticeable.
What is a laser hair removal treatment like?
When you visit RejuvenationMD for laser hair removal, one of our laser specialists will develop a treatment plan tailored to you. Developing this plan includes deciding which kind of laser is best for your skin type, hair, and goals.
Laser hair removal can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on how many areas we’re treating. Our laser specialist will adjust the laser to your skin color and hair thickness. You’ll wear protective goggles during the procedure.
Before you leave our office after your laser hair removal appointment, we may offer you ice packs and special cream to alleviate swelling and calm irritation.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Laser hair removal is delivered in a series that involves 6 or more sessions. Some patients need more to achieve their goals depending on the areas or their skin and hair type.
The amount of time between each of your laser hair removal sessions depends on the areas being treated:
- To treat your face, we’ll have you come in for a session every four to six weeks.
- To treat your body, we may space your treatments out a little longer, with about six to eight weeks between treatments due to the difference in the hair growth cycle.
How do I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?
Avoid sun exposure as much as possible and steer clear from tanning beds and self tanners for the month leading up to your laser hair removal appointment. Tanned skin, natural or artificial, can make the treatment less effective and put you at a greater risk of experiencing side effects.
Two to six weeks prior to your laser hair removal appointment, stop waxing, tweezing, plucking, and using hair removal creams.
For one week leading up to your appointment, stop using topical skin care products with strong active ingredients like retinoids, alpha- and beta- hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide.
The day before your laser hair removal appointment, we ask that you shave the areas you plan to have treated with a new, clean blade.
Let us know if you have a history of herpes or cold sores so we can prescribe you with antiviral medications.
What are the possible side effects of laser hair removal?
You may have some redness and/or swelling after your laser hair removal treatment. This is totally normal along with some slight pain and will gradually go away on its own. You can use a cold compress on the areas to help alleviate the pain and swelling.
Other possible side effects include:
- Blisters
- Burns
- Scars
- Infections
- Herpes outbreaks (inform our team if you have a history of herpes and cold sores so we can prescribe you medication to avoid flare-ups)
- Hyperpigmentation
- Hypopigmentation
Our experienced team of professionals here at RejuvenationMD know which types of lasers and settings work best for all skin types to lower the risk of complications like hyperpigmentation, blisters, and scarring.
If you have eczema, let us know ahead of your laser hair removal appointment so we can recommend steps you can take to control it in areas you plan to have treated to avoid irritation.
What are alternatives to laser hair removal?
Here at RejuvenationMD, we offer IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments, which target a large section of hair at once. Like laser hair removal, IPL requires multiple treatment sessions (typically at least 6) followed by maintenance appointments to get rid of unwanted hair.
How much hair should fall out after each laser hair removal session?
A simple average may be that 15-20% of the hair will be affected at each appointment. Following the treatment, hair doesn’t “fall out.” You will simply notice that less hair grows back.
Which lasers are used for laser hair removal at RejuvenationMD?
We use the Sciton® Forever Bare BBL™ and Cynosure ELITE IQ™ for our laser hair removal treatments.
Does laser hair removal treatment hurt?
You may feel some stinging during your laser hair removal treatment. Some of our patients describe the feeling as that of a rubber band snapping against their skin.
Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal works best for people with light skin and dark hair, because the contrast allows the laser to detect and accurately target the pigments in hair follicles without burning your skin. If your hair is light, the laser won’t be able to give you good results.
People with darker skin tones are at greater risk of hyperpigmentation from laser hair removal. If you have medium-brown skin (Fitzpatrick skin type IV), we can use an Nd:YAG laser to lower your risk of this. If you have dark brown skin (Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI), we may recommend avoiding laser hair removal altogether, but one of our providers experienced in treating your skin tone may be able to safely target your hair using the Nd:YAG laser.
We recommend avoiding laser hair removal if you’re pregnant or are taking medications such as acne treatment.
What can’t be treated with laser hair removal?
The only area laser hair removal is not safe to treat is the eyelid and the areas around it. It’s also not recommended to use laser hair removal on skin with tattoos.
Laser hair removal is most effective on people with dark hair and lighter skin tones because of the contrast in hair and skin tones. It is not an effective treatment for reducing light hair color like blonde, white, gray, or red. It is also not recommended for anyone who is tan or has dark skin.
You should avoid laser hair removal if you:
- Have keloid scars
- Have or had skin cancer
Is there any downtime needed after a laser hair removal treatment?
Most of our laser hair removal patients here at RejuvenationMD are able to return to normal activities immediately after their appointment.
Can I still wax and pluck while going through laser hair removal treatment?
You should avoid waxing and plucking altogether while you’re doing laser hair removal. Shaving is safe, however other types of hair removal can create changes in your hair cycle, making your laser hair treatments less effective.
